Northern California RV Buying & Storage Guide
Before you finalize your RV purchase, confirm the space, height, and coverage you’ll need to store it comfortably and protect it year-round.
Height Planning
Class A motorhomes often land around 12 to 13.5 feet tall. Measure from the ground to the absolute tallest point (A/C units, solar, racks, antennas).
- Many owners choose a carport leg height around 14 to 16 feet for comfortable clearance
- Add extra room so you’re not “perfect-fit” tight
- If your driveway is sloped, measure from the highest ground point
Length Planning
Many Class A motorhomes are 30 to 45 feet long. Your cover should protect the full vehicle while leaving room to walk and maneuver safely.
- Add 3 to 5 feet beyond your RV length for breathing room
- Leave clearance at the front and rear so you can park cleanly
- Plan a walking path so you can access compartments and doors
Width & Access Space
RV bodies are commonly 8 to 8.5 feet wide, but storage needs more space for doors, slide-outs, and safe side access.
- Try to leave at least 2 to 2.5 feet of space on each side for access
- Allow extra width if you have slide-outs
- Make sure your door can swing fully without hitting posts
